SLED Usage Statistics

Number of SLED pages accessed:

These statistics show which SLED pages are the most popular. We track how many times an individual SLED page (such as http://sled.alaska.edu/arts) was viewed during a month. We don't keep track of how many times the sites to which we link are viewed by SLED users.

Top-Level Domains, or where users are coming from:

These statistics show what type of domain a user is accessing SLED from. For example, if the computer you are accessing SLED through is part of a school network, you are probably on an .edu domain.

A web address is made up of domain names. Top-level domains make up the .edu, .com, .gov, .mil, .net, .org part of a web address. Countries also have top level domain names such as .ca for Canada, .us for the United States or .uk for the United Kingdom. For a list of country codes, go to the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency page.

In November 2000 ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers approved seven new top-level domain names. These are:

  1. .aero for use by the air transport industry
  2. .biz for use by businesses
  3. .coop for use by cooperatives
  4. .info for unrestricted use
  5. .museum for use by museums
  6. .name for use by individuals
  7. .pro for use by accountants, lawyers and physicians

For more information on these, go to the ICANN Top-Level Domain page.
